Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s HealthCare Wellness Program Receives National Recognition
Louisville, Ky.—Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s HealthCare, part of KentuckyOne Health, has received a Corporate Health & Productivity Management Award from the Institute for Health and Productivity Management (IHPM). Representatives from the hospital will accept the award on Monday, April 2, at the annual IHPM Health and Productivity Conference in Orlando, Florida.
The award recognizes JHSMH’s work to increase the variety and quality of employee offerings of wellness programs and linking the improvements in employee health to increased productivity and decreased lost work time.
The Institute for Health and Productivity management is a non-profit organization, which aims to further the view of employee health as an investment in the overall business. Looking beyond healing those who are sick, the IHPM sees proactive employee health initiatives as an important piece of workplace improvement, working with employers across the world to build, manage and maintain proactive health systems.
“We have dedicated a lot of time and energy into making our wellness program one of the best in the nation,” said Jim Parobek, senior vice president for JHSMH, who oversees the program. “We believe our efforts demonstrate the effectiveness of a program that can be tailored to fit each employee’s individual needs and desires.”
In an effort to create a “culture of wellness” within the health system, the JHSMH Wellness program focused on improving employees’ overall health to ensure long-term benefits for both the employees and the patients they care for. A comprehensive wellness committee was formed to develop a variety of resources and participation levels for employees.
Throughout the course of a year, the comprehensive program touches nearly every employee in the JHSMH system. The program offers many levels of involvement, from flu shots and TB tests, to smoking cessation classes and fitness boot camp. Employees have the opportunity to better their health through a variety of programs.
The employees who participate in the program have seen a broad set of benefits as a result of their participation. Across the board, participants improved their nutrition, increased physical activity, reduced overall stress level, quit or reduced smoking and saw significant benefits to their overall health.
In addition to the health benefits, which incentivize employees to participate, employees can also earn rewards through the system, as well as receive reimbursement for gym memberships and discounts on health insurance.
