Louisville, Ky.—The U.S. President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition (PCFSN) has selected Karey McDowell, M.S., CTRS to receive a 2012 PCFSN Community Leadership Award.  The award is given annually to individuals who improve the lives of others within their community by providing or enhancing opportunities to engage in sports, physical activities, fitness or nutrition-related programs.

In her work at Frazier Rehab Institute, a part of KentuckyOne Health, McDowell has been instrumental to the development of the Frazier Community Fitness and Wellness Facility, a partnership with the Dana and Christopher Reeve Foundation, to provide a world-class fitness opportunity to the disabled community of Louisville and surrounding areas.  The facility ensures that all patients have the utmost opportunity to improve the quality of their life, regardless of disabling conditions.

“It is our pleasure to present this award to Karey McDowell,” said Shellie Pfohl, executive director of the U.S. President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition.  “Individuals like Karey are working tirelessly to encourage physical activity and proper nutrition to positively impact the health of their communities. Together we are all working to make our nation a healthier one.”

“Karey has created an incredible opportunity for individuals with disabilities,” said Randy Napier, Vice President, Frazier Rehab Institute. “She continuously strives to improve the program, herself and her team, and that is what makes something like this a true success.”

This year, the U.S. President’s Council presented the Community Leadership Award to 47 individuals across the country for making sports, physical activity, fitness, and nutrition-related programs available in their communities.
