Our Lady of Peace Presents Free Seminar on Child and Adolescent Mental Health Issues
Louisville, Ky.—Parenting, teaching or counseling a child with mental health issues presents very special challenges, and the Kosair Charities Children’s Peace Center at Our Lady of Peace, part of KentuckyOne Health, wants to help.
On Tuesday, December 4, 2012, the Center will host a free seminar entitled “Treatment of Children & Adolescents’ Mental Health Issues,” as part of Peace for Parents, a free seminar series for parents, teachers and counselors working with school-age children. The seminar will take place from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Jewish Hospital Medical Center Northeast, 2401 Terra Crossing Blvd. in Louisville.
John E. Gallehr, M.D., an adolescent and child psychiatrist, will lead the seminar, which will include an interactive discussion on mental health issues and the medications commonly prescribed for behavior and emotional problems. The program will also include a question and answer period.
According to the U.S Surgeon General, nearly 20 percent of children suffer from a diagnosable mental illness during a given year.
“Parents want the best for their children. Managing behavioral and emotional problems, determining the right treatment and medications can seem overwhelming at times,” said Dr. Gallehr. “Through this basic seminar, we hope to provide some basic information to assist parents.”
Interested individuals are encouraged to register in advance. Registration is free and can be done by calling (502) 479-4495.
“Through the Peace for Parents series our expert care providers are educating parents and providing tips to guide them through common challenges,” said Jennifer Nolan, president and CEO, Our Lady of Peace. “These seminars are a wonderful opportunity for the community to get free information in an interactive and informative setting.”
