Martin, Ky.— As part of the national effort to increase awareness of cardiovascular disease in women, Saint Joseph Martin, part of KentuckyOne Health, will host a Go Red for Women Lunch & Learn event on Friday, February 22 at noon at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park in Prestonsburg.

The free event will feature Internist Nida Mateen, M.D., who will present “Your Guide to a Healthy Heart,” a keynote addressing women’s heart health—including heart attack signs and symptoms, risk factors and tips for prevention. Complimentary lunch will also be provided.

Heart disease is the number one killer of women, but only 1 in 5 American women believe that heart disease is her greatest health threat. A staggering 90 percent of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease.

February is known across the country as American Heart Month. Cardiovascular disease accounts for over 30 percent of Kentucky’s deaths in recent years.

Additional information on the benefits of nutrition and exercise, as well as, diabetes prevention and management will also be available. This is a “Go Red for Women” event held in conjunction with the American Heart Association, but men are invited to participate as well.

Details or reservations can be obtained by calling (606) 285-6690. Reservations should be made by February 18.

About KentuckyOne Health
KentuckyOne Health was formed when two major Kentucky health care organizations came together in early 2012. KentuckyOne Health combines the Jewish and Catholic heritages of the two former systems – Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s HealthCare and Saint Joseph Health System. In late 2012, the organization formed a partnership with the University of Louisville Hospital | James Graham Brown Cancer Center.  The nonprofit system is committed to improving the health of Kentuckians by integrating medical research, education, technology and health care services wherever patients receive care. KentuckyOne Health has more than 200 locations including hospitals, physician groups, clinics, primary care centers, specialty institutes and home health agencies, with nearly 15,000 employees across the state of Kentucky and southern Indiana. KentuckyOne Health is the largest health system in Kentucky and has more than 3,100 licensed beds.
