S*T*A*R*S Committee awards over $70,000 to support Women’s and Children’s Services
Lexington, Ky. --- The Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation, part of KentuckyOne Health, joined the S*T*A*R*S committee members and gift recipients for a check presentation on March 14. Over $70,000 was distributed from funds raised at the 24th Annual Evening with the S*T*A*R*S gala. The committee awarded $10,000 for Baby Health Services; $10,000 to provide free mammograms and screenings at the Breast Center located at Saint Joseph East; and a $50,000 lead gift towards the capital campaign to expand services and purchase of a 3D ready new digital mammography machine for the Breast Center. In its 24-year history, the committee has raised over $1 million to support the life-saving programs and services of Saint Joseph and Saint Joseph East hospitals.
“The tremendous impact provided by the S*T*A*R*S committee has helped thousands of our patients and families throughout Central and Eastern Kentucky. When we witness donor dollars infused back into the communities we serve, it reminds us our true purpose is to help those in need,” said Barry A. Stumbo, president, Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation.
Dr. Kimberly Stigers added, “On behalf of the physician partners at Saint Joseph Breast Center, we are so very grateful for the support through this wonderful event. These gifts are important to the Breast Center because they allow us to examine women who do not have the means to receive a mammogram every year and assists in prevention, diagnosis and treatment for the thousands of patients we see each year.”
Leslie Fannin, S*T*A*R*S Chairperson said, “We are especially proud to support Women’s and Children’s Services this year. Our gifts for Baby Health and the purchase of 3D ready mammography for our Breast Center are important because it truly helps build a healthier community and enhances the lives of those we serve.”
Plans are underway for the 25th Annual Evening with the S*T*A*R*S black-tie gala on November 16, 2013 at the Embassy Suites in Lexington. If you would like to attend, sponsor or assist with items for the Silent Auction, please call the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation at 859.313.1705.
