Frazier Rehab Hosts National Summit

4/24/2013

LOUISVILLE, Ky -- The Frazier Rehab Institute, part of KentuckyOne Health, is hosting the Eighth Annual National Summit of all centers in the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation NeuroRecovery Network April 24 - 29.

In conjunction with their attendance at the National Summit, over 110 Team Reeve members, 20 of whom have a spinal cord injury, are participating in the Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon and miniMarathon presented by Walmart and HumanaVitality April 27. Each racer with a spinal cord injury is participating in a portion of the miniMarathon depending on their personal goals and ability.

The Reeve Foundation NeuroRecovery Network, funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is a system of eight rehabilitation centers and five community fitness and wellness facilities. The National Summit is held annually for directors, physicians, occupational and physical therapists, and technicians from 13 centers across the United States and Canada to advance outcomes, promote better health and improve quality of life for people living with spinal cord injury and other neurological disorders.

Participants attend workgroups and demonstrations on locomotor training techniques, overground training, teaching cues, respiratory tests, pediatric outcomes, pain assessments, and nutrition. Together, they standardize rehabilitation techniques adopted and used across all centers nationwide.
