The painting is a museum-quality reproduction of an oil-on-wood work completed in 1503 by Mariotto Albertinelli during the Italian Renaissance. The original now hangs in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy.

This reproduction was commissioned in 1919 and presented to SMEH the following year by Edwin Bacon of the former Bacon’s Department Store in Louisville. It hung in the main entrance to the hospital, then located at 12th and Magnolia in Old Louisville.

The painting has now been relocated to the main entrance of the current SMEH at 1850 Bluegrass Avenue in South Louisville.

Taking part in the rededication will be members of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, the order which founded SMEH in 1874. Also participating will be former Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s HealthCare board member Martin Margulis, a retired executive of the Bacon’s organization.
