(Louisville, KY – May 10, 2012)  The summer will take flight at Bowman Field when Cabo Wabo holds its annual Summer Fling on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at Central American Airways hangar at Bowman Field, 2805 Taylorsville Road. All proceeds will benefit Kosair Charities Children’s Peace Center at Our Lady of Peace, a part of KentuckyOne Health, for improvements to a playground for young patients.

The party will take place from 8 p.m. – 1 a.m. with live music provided by Thumper and the Plaid Rabbits. Admission is $12 and you must be 21 or older to attend. Guests are also asked to consider bringing a donation for the “Back to Basics Clothing Drive”—new/never worn socks, t-shirts or underwear for boy and girl patients of Our Lady of Peace in sizes from children to juniors to adults. “We have so many youth in our care who arrive at the hospital from crisis situations, having with them few if any personal belongings,” said Jennifer Nolan, president and CEO of Our Lady of Peace. “These donations will help to stock the free clothes closet we provide for our patients and make essential clothing readily available for them.”

Proceeds from this charity event will go toward playground improvements at the hospital. “These upgrades are desperately needed to provide safe and entertaining outdoor activities for the thousands of vulnerable children our team members serve year after year, many of whom have suffered from serious abuse and neglect,” said Nolan.

Cabo Wabo, which stands for Charity And Benefit Organization We’re All Better Off, is a local fundraising organization that raises money through parties held twice a year, primarily for local organizations that serve children. For more information, visit www.cabowabo.org.

Our Lady of Peace is one of the largest private providers of youth behavioral health services in the country.  Though perceptions exist to the contrary, approximately 70-75% of individuals in inpatient status at the hospital are children.  In addition, the majority of the children treated at the facility are placed in outpatient programs.

Kosair Charities Children’s Peace Center serves as the banner for the hospital’s children’s programs, which include free assessments by professional clinicians, inpatient care, day and evening outpatient programs and specialized services such as Peace Academy, a partnership with Jefferson County Public Schools that allows children to continue their classwork while receiving treatment. For more information on the Children’s Pace Center, visit www.childrenspeacecenterpsychiatry.com.  Parents can schedule a free assessment by a licensed clinical therapist who will personally assess the child’s needs and recommend the most appropriate care by calling 502-451-3333.
