The vision of the Jewish Hospital Heart & Lung Institute is to be the best cardiovascular and pulmonary provider in America, achieving excellent outcomes and improving the lives of those we serve and those who serve.
The Heart & Lung Institute is dedicated to offering the latest advances in heart and lung care. By supporting research and education, the Institute is at the forefront in developing new technology and training physicians from around the world in leading-edge techniques.
The Jewish Hospital Heart & Lung Institute forms partnerships with pharmaceutical and medical technology companies to develop advanced treatments for cardiopulmonary diseases. Some of those partnerships include:
- The Cardiovascular Research Center provides research space and equipment to the University of Louisville's Divisions of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and Cardiology.
- As physicians develop new techniques, Jewish Hospital often serves as a national or international training site. Educational symposia are held for physicians, featuring international speakers and scientists on the latest topics and techniques.
- Telemedicine with other facilities allows physician’s access to patient data and educational programming in their local communities.
Clinical Research and Data
The clinical research program at the Heart & Lung Institute features committed clinical research coordinators to manage the ongoing research.
Clinical data on all cardiovascular procedures from the entire JHSMH Network of hospitals is collected in a vast database. Outcomes of new procedures and treatments are then analyzed for improved patient care.
The Institute conducts outcomes research in the hospital and through follow-up studies after a patient goes home. This information helps assess a patient's progress following a cardiac procedure.
